Gulf Oil Spill Solution

May 1, 2010 3:17 PM Eastern Time

A young engineering student and his dad in Ottawa Ontario, Canada, propose a quick and hugely effective aid for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. This is a macro scale remedy for a macro scale oil spill.

The proposal for quick and effective aid:

1. Deploy (as many as required) large 1000 ft. barges (these are readily available in Louisiana and other Gulf coast states). On these barges, situate large water/oil separation tanks.(large means hundreds of holding/separation tanks each with hundreds of thousands of gallons capacities).

This suggested remedy simply pumps oil laden water into the bottom of the tanks, the majority of the oil rises to the top of the tank and is skimmed off by large (40 ft. diameter) five spoke rotating wheels (like fans) separating the primary oil/water mix into a 70 % oil/ 30 % water mix and the mixture is then cycled through a adjacent secondary tank similarly equipped. The oil water mix is now 90 to 95% oil and 5 to 10 % water.'

2. Deploy the barges to areas of importance or where oil concentration is highest, in order to begin collection and processing of oil laden water.

3. Utilize off shore drilling operations pipelines to pump the 90 - 95 % oil and the 5 to 10 % into separate holding tanks at nearby refineries for refining and safe, environmental, friendly processing. All holding tanks are located on land at participating refineries that are employed to save and refine the oil. Gulf coast states have, what, 50 % of the USA’s refineries.

Once situated and operational, this concept is, in effect, is a primary refinery and can be utilized world wide.

Respectively submitted.
